methods, notes and classification General government gross debt - quarterly data methods, notes and classification

The general government sector (sector S.13 in ESA 1995, 2.68) comprises central government, state government, local government, and social security funds. Data for the general government sector are consolidated between sub-sectors at the national level. The series are measured in euro (ECU before 1999) and as a percentage of GDP. General government primary balance: general government net borrowing / net lending excluding consolidated interest expenditure (ESA 1995, 4.41).
